South of Osaka, lies the town of Kishiwada, famous for the
boisterous Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri. The festival is held every
year on September 14th and 15th. During the festival thousands
of young inhabitants run through the streets pulling wooden floats
weighing 4 tons.

The people of Kishiwada are justly proud of the festival which
each year stops all daily activities, including schools and factories.
However, the town offers more than the rowdy festival. Near the
city center is the small but beautiful Kishiwada Castle, built
in 1597 and housing a folk museum.

When you visit Kishiwada, also make sure to visit the Danjiri
Kaikan, a small museum showing the history of the festival. And
if you are lucky to be in the city when the cherry blossoms,
board the train and head off to nearby Kaisuka City to visit
Mizuma Temple. This charming small temple has beautiful cherry
trees along a river which has not (yet?) been lined with concrete.
