TYPICAL JAPANESE

An Obi, the sash that decorates the kimono.
It often costs more than the kimono itself.

It is an almost sacred custom in Japan to take off the shoes when entering the home. Picnickers take off their shoes to party on a plastic sheet on a sandy patch.

The futon. Ubiquitous and practical. When not needed the futon, a thin mattrass, is folded away into a closet that is exactly the size of a folded futon.
